Print/Save/Email/Cite Help
LC Catalog Print, Save, Email, and Cite
You may Print, Save, Email, or Cite one or more records using services integrated into the LC Catalog.
From a Titles List or a Call Numbers Browse List, you have the option to Select All records on the current page of your search results or to mark individual records by checking the box to the left of the brief record information. Unless you reset the number of records displayed per page, the records you select will be retained when you page forward and backward through your search results. After making your selection, click Print, Save, Email, or Cite, located to the right of Select All. On larger screens, you will see labelled icons; smaller screens display icons only.

From an individual record display, select Print Record, Save Record, Email Record, or Cite Record buttons, located on the right of larger displays. On smaller screens, these services are grouped in the Print/Save/Email/Cite/Comments accordion "drawer".

Print Search Results
To print item(s) you have selected, choose a Brief or Full text print format from the Print Search Results drop-down menu, then click Print. Your print output will display in a new browser screen or tab, with each record separately numbered. Use your browser's print function to print the contents of the screen.
To return to your search results, click Cancel or Return to Item Information. To enter a new search, use the Quick Search box or select a Search Option from the Menu or Search Options drop-down at the top of your screen.

Records in the LC Catalog use Unicode opens in a new window (UTF-8 encoding) for printing. In addition to Latin scripts, the Catalog contains records in the following languages/scripts: Chinese, Japanese, Korean; Cyrillic-based scripts; Greek; Hebrew, Yiddish; and Perso-Arabic script (e.g., Arabic, Persian, Pushto, Sindhi, Urdu). For more information, see Searching/Displaying Non-Latin Characters. In general, your preferred web browser settings will not need to be changed to correctly view and print records that contain diacritics, special characters, or non-Latin characters. If you have problems, however, you may need to reconfigure your browser opens in a new window. Best results occur if you have Unicode fonts and use Unicode character encoding with automatic character encoding activated.
Save Search Results (MARC)
To save selected item(s) as MARC records, choose either the MARC UTF-8 or MARC-8 format from the Save Search Results drop-down menu, then click Save. A dialog box should appear in your browser prompting you to save your results. The LC Catalog export file is always named records.mrc, so take care to rename your local file to prevent exports from being overwritten.
To return to your search results, click Cancel or Return to Item Information. To enter a new search, use the Quick Search box or select a Search Option from the Menu or Search Options drop-down at the top of your screen.

Email Search Results
To email selected record(s), enter your email address in the form box, change the Subject line (if desired), add your comments, then click Email. The email you receive will contain a brief citation and a persistent link for each record:

To return to your search results, click Cancel or Return to Item Information. To enter a new search, use the Quick Search box or select a Search Option from the Menu or Search Options drop-down at the top of your screen.
Cite Record
Cite Record will provide you with a brief text version of a Catalog record. To help ensure that the citation information can be copied into a text document, the display contains minimal formatting. The document into which you copy this citation should use Unicode-compliant fonts. Cite Record can be used from both individual record displays and from Titles Lists.

Saving a Record in MARCXML or MODS
From an individual record display, records with LCCNs can also be saved in MARCXML or MODS. On larger screens, these services are located on the right side of the labeled bibliographic description; on smaller screens, they are found in the Print/Save/Email/Cite/Comments accordion "drawer."
LC Catalog Permalinks
Each LC Catalog record can be referenced using a persistent link to the LC Catalog record. For records assigned an LCCN (Library of Congress Control Number), this identifier is an LCCN Permalink; records without an LCCN display a permalink based on the LC Catalog system identifier. On smaller screens, LCCN Permalink is found in the More Information accordion "drawer."
